Parsimony Press - A Twist in the Tale ( Saki : Dust , Guy de Maupassant : The Necklace, Ambrose Bierce : An Occurrence at Owl Creek , O. Henry : The Gift of The Magi) HB - 2000 ✓ In Stock

4 Tales with ' unexpected twists' - classic short stories Dusk - Saki - Dusk is a hallmark of Saki's writing genius. Norman Gortsby considered dusk somewhat differently from others. To him, dusk was a time when losers in life, ashamed to face the world during the daytime, come out from concealment. These losers at dusk appear blurry and in all probability will not be recognised by snoops. Guy de Maupassant - The Necklace "The Necklace" is an 1888 short story by French writer Guy de Maupassant. It is known for its twist ending, which was a hallmark of de Maupassant's style. Ambrose Bierce - An Occurrence at Owl Creek An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" (1890) is a short story by the American writer and war veteran Bierce. Described as "one of the most famous and frequently anthologized stories in American literature", it was originally published in 1890. The story, which is set during the American Civil War, is known for its irregular time sequence and twist ending.  Bierce's abandonment of strict linear narration in favor of the internal mind of the protagonist is an early example of the stream of consciousness narrative mode O.Henry - The Gift of the Magi The Gift of the Magi" is a short story  first published in 1905. The story tells of a young husband and wife and how they deal with the challenge of buying secret Christmas gifts for each other with very little money. As a sentimental story with a moral lesson about gift-giving, it has been popular for adaptation, the ironic ending is generally considered a classic example of it's kind.        Hardcover,  as new.  Small pencil notation to endpaper.  Text firm and clean, as issued without dustjacket, some scratches to back cover. 58 pages.

Fiesta : The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway ✓ In Stock

Paris in the twenties: Pernod, parties and expatriate Americans, loose-living on money from home. Jake is wildly in love with Brett Ashley, aristocratic and irresistibly beautiful, but with an abandoned, sensuous nature that she cannot change. When the couple drifts to Spain to the dazzle of the fiesta and the heady atmosphere of the bullfight, their affair is strained by new passions, new jealousies, and Jake must finally learn that he will never possess the woman he loves. Powerful, intense and magnificent, Fiesta is the novel which established Ernest Hemingway as a writer of genius, and set him on the way to being one of the greatest literary novelists of the twentieth century.
