Country: Spain Region: Rioja (Sonsierra)
Varietal: 100% Tempranillo
Category: Red Wine Style: Dry
Producer: Vinedos El Pacto
Description:The Name of this wine refers to "The Pact" between Mother nature and the makers of this beautiful wine. This basically means that if the winemakers respect the land on which the grapes are grown Mother Nature will give them the best possible grapes with which to make their wine.
Vines have long been grown in the Sonsierra, owing to its ideal geographical and climate conditions. Protected by the Sierra del Toloño mountain range, which acts as a barrier against the Cantabrian rains, it is a very airy area thanks to the "cierzo” or chilling wind, which ventilates the grapes and gives them their freshness and an Atlantic character. The vineyards' southern orientation provides for mild temperatures all year, rainfall in the winter, and a favourable temperature difference between day and night, all of which contribute to optimal grape ripening year after year.
Tasting Notes: This is so well made, firstly on the nose it shows dark berry intensity followed by chocolate and liquorice and spice. On the palate its bold but balanced with a super long finish (the hallmark of a really well-made wine).
Food Matches: This is great with Medium Rare Steak or with salami and crusty white bread and black olives.

Producer: Bodegas Luis Canas
Description:Bodegas Luis Canas has been at the heart of Rioja since 1928 though the contemporary story begins in 1970 when Luis Canas became the first Rioja Alavesa winemaker to bottle his young wine rather than sell it in bulk. Situated in Villabuena, Luis Canas utilise their knowledge of the local climate, terroir, cultivation methods and a real sense of pride and dedication to create these unique wines - every harvest Luis Canas, now 86, stands at the head of the selection table keenly ensuring only the best parcels of grapes are used. The end result is wine consistently packed with fruit and wrapped in a silky, oak laced layer of flavour that seems unique to Rioja - truly world class.
Tasting Notes: An ideal Rioja not only for the fans of the style but also for those who still struggle to fall in love with it. It's round, pleasant and very easy to drink. Ripe red fruit with smoked, coffee and tobacco reminiscences makes this one just irresistible.
